Complexity and Self-organization
this article introduces some of the main concepts and methods of the science studying complex, self-organizing systems and networks, in a non-technical manner. Complexity cannot be strictly defined, only situated in between order and disorder. A complex system is typically modeled as a collection of interacting agents, representing components as diverse as people, cells or molecules. Because of...
متن کاملTime-dependent analysis of carrier density and potential energy in spherical centered defect InGaAs/AlGaAs quantum dot (SCDQD)
Interaction and correlation effects in quantum dots play a fundamental role in defining both their equilibrium and transport properties. Numerical methods are commonly employed to study such systems. In this paper we investigate the numerical calculation of quantum transport of electrons in spherical centered defect InGaAs/AlGaAs quantum dot (SCDQD). The simulation is based on the imaginary time...

متن کاملNetwork Dynamics and Spontaneous Oscillations in a Developing Neuronal Culture
Biological neuronal networks are highly complex and studying such networks is important to understand its functionality. Neuronal networks are dynamic especially during the developmental stages of the brain where new neurons and synapses form and will continue through the lifespan of an organism. Developing networks in in vitro often self-organize into functional networks that produce spontaneo...
متن کاملDemo Abstract: DisCord - Discovering and Coordinating Data Exchange Protocol in Opportunistic Wireless Sensor Networks
We propose DisCord, an opportunistic protocol for neighbor discovery and data exchange coordination in sensor networks. DisCord allows multiple low-end nodes within radio range to discover each other, self-organize into a network, and exchange data in an autonomous fashion. DisCord can successfully cope with node mobility and unstable network dynamics.
